I Love You, Competitors
Most people hate seeing competitors.  They freak out at the thought of someone else trying to be the best at the exact thing that they’re trying to do. I… love them.  I couldn’t imagine doing anything that no one else is trying to do.  In fact, almost everything in my life is motivated by the fact that someone else might be breathing down my neck. Maybe it’s my crazy...

How Much Equity Should I Get as a Co-Founder?
I was recently asked by a friend my opinion on how much equity they should get as a co-founder of a company.  In this particular situation there were a lot of in’s, a lot of out’s, a lot of what have you’s (this is a Big Lebowski reference).  In order to keep my friends identity secret I won’t go into the details. However, I think for the most part the answer is pretty...

Family Business
Last night, I finally got a chance to see my little sister play lacrosse this year. I also got a chance to hang out with my two younger brothers. It’s amazing, we don’t see each other often, but once we get together it’s like nothing’s changes. We hung out like we see each other everyday. I guess that’s just what happens with family. They’re my brothers...

Never a Good Time For Anything
I guess Dan Spinosa said it best, “There’s never a good time for anything.”  As the company continues to grow day by day, I find myself being spread as thin as can be.  There are so many things I want to do in a day, and I can’t remember the last time I’ve completed all of them. This isn’t entirely bad, because the important things are getting done, but...

Busy Week
This week has been incredibly busy for me.  I feel like I’ve rarely had a few minutes to my self.  Thinking back on the week, and how it was structured, I realize I can do a better time of planning and managing my time.   I’ve been trying to get away from the traditional to-do list, as I don’t think they work.  However, I’ve been keeping an ongoing list, in no particular...

My Own Internal Critic
I need to start blogging everyday.  It’s way harder than it sounds.  I know that when I blog, my thoughts are more structured in my head.  I seem to be able to think more clearly.  It gives me the chance to organize my thoughts, and it’ll help me ‘build a personal brand’, but most importantly, I think, it will help me silence the voice in my head.   Pay attention to your...

Ask/Filter/Proceed
For a few months, above my desk I had a postit note with the phrase, “Don’t ask for help… ever”.  Then, directly below it, another one with much smaller text that read, “unless you really, really need it.”   I’ve developed almost a hatred of asking for help.  I guess I saw it as admitting vulnerability.  I don’t like that realization that I’m...

NYC Tech Blood Drive - Valentine's Day Edition
This past weekend was the 3rd, NYC Tech Blood Drive.  The team at Shelby.tv volunteered their offices, and we were open for business.   Thanks to all who retweeted our tweets, reblogged our posts, and told their friends about it.  Not to mention all who showed up on a Saturday to donate. We had a great day, again.  Shelby’s office is an amazing place to spend the day, and when you add to...

NY Tech Day and the NYC Tech Blood Drive →
I’ve known John for a few months now, almost a year.  He’s another part of the great community that is NYC.  He writes about his personal reason for wanting to donate blood, and it’s a good one.   Truth is though, if you can donate, there really is no reason for you not to.  As John says: GET OFF YOUR BUTT this saturday and donate at the NYC Tech Blood Drive.  15 minutes of your...

THE LAUREN PROJECT: Joe brought me a straw →
Lauren’s a good egg, so I brought her a straw… Also, sign up for the blood drive! thelaurenproject: So, I was sitting here, feeling quite crappy after waking up with a wicked sore throat, getting a late start on work, and spending a few hours in a primarily Russian-speaking doctor’s office. I had my antibiotics, my tissues, three types of lozenges, two types of nasal spray (anyone...

ReBlog: NYC Tech Blood Drive
I’m reblogging my original post from back in Aug. when I started organizing the first NYC Tech Blood Drive. I’m very proud of what this blood drive has become so far, and it still has a long ways to go. I hope to see you all there. I wrote this post to let people know why I started this drive, and why I hope it continues to grow.  The next drive is Feb 11th. from 11am - 5pm at the...

NYC Tech Blood Drive - Round 3
This time around will be the Valentines Day edition of the NYC Tech Blood Drive.  It’s being held on Feb 11, from 11am - 5pm at the ShelbyTV offices, located at 110 E. 23rd Street, 10th floor. For those have you who don’t know, the blood drive is something I’ve been organizing since Sept 2011, and it’s something I hope to make permanent in the NYC Tech community....

How to Not Work So Much
I’m going to write about something that a lot of people I know are going to probably say somewhere in the back of their minds - “He’s never gonna make it.” In our tech community today, it’s revered to be the guy that’s in the office early in the morning and leaves late at night after drinking coffee, green tea, and red bull all night to get the last line of...
