NY Tech Day and the NYC Tech Blood Drive →
I’ve known John for a few months now, almost a year.  He’s another part of the great community that is NYC.  He writes about his personal reason for wanting to donate blood, and it’s a good one.   Truth is though, if you can donate, there really is no reason for you not to.  As John says: GET OFF YOUR BUTT this saturday and donate at the NYC Tech Blood Drive.  15 minutes of your...

THE LAUREN PROJECT: Joe brought me a straw →
Lauren’s a good egg, so I brought her a straw… Also, sign up for the blood drive! thelaurenproject: So, I was sitting here, feeling quite crappy after waking up with a wicked sore throat, getting a late start on work, and spending a few hours in a primarily Russian-speaking doctor’s office. I had my antibiotics, my tissues, three types of lozenges, two types of nasal spray (anyone...

ReBlog: NYC Tech Blood Drive
I’m reblogging my original post from back in Aug. when I started organizing the first NYC Tech Blood Drive. I’m very proud of what this blood drive has become so far, and it still has a long ways to go. I hope to see you all there. I wrote this post to let people know why I started this drive, and why I hope it continues to grow.  The next drive is Feb 11th. from 11am - 5pm at the...

NYC Tech Blood Drive - Round 3
This time around will be the Valentines Day edition of the NYC Tech Blood Drive.  It’s being held on Feb 11, from 11am - 5pm at the ShelbyTV offices, located at 110 E. 23rd Street, 10th floor. For those have you who don’t know, the blood drive is something I’ve been organizing since Sept 2011, and it’s something I hope to make permanent in the NYC Tech community....

How to Not Work So Much
I’m going to write about something that a lot of people I know are going to probably say somewhere in the back of their minds - “He’s never gonna make it.” In our tech community today, it’s revered to be the guy that’s in the office early in the morning and leaves late at night after drinking coffee, green tea, and red bull all night to get the last line of...

No Email
I’ve committed myself to only check email a few times a day.  It’s been hard, and I haven’t been able to hold out for as long as I would like.  However, I’ve cut back significantly, and it’s made a world of difference. I used to have my email window open at all times.  If I kept track I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that I checked my email over 100 times a...

Do Things Your Way
I’ve recently taken a hard look at all the ways I’ve been going about my work/life for the past few years.  It’s not an easy thing to evaluate yourself, and it’s especially hard to be completely honest with yourself.  I recently sat down at a table with nothing but a sheet of paper to really self assess and be honest with where I’ve been, where I am, and where I wanna...

Go Slower
I don’t believe in New Years resolutions.  I think they’re mostly bullshit, and I would bet that almost every resolution I’ve made has been broken.   To start the year off, however, I would like to state a personal goal that I can start accomplishing immediately.  I’d like to go a little slower in 2012.  I want to demand less of myself from each day.  I’d like to...

You Can't Fail...
You can’t fail if you don’t define success.  It’s an easy way to coast through work, your day, or your life.  Just get through it, head down and take things as they come. However, if you do that you can never make progress.  You’ll never be able to reach the next level because you’ll never know what the next level is. Setting long term goals are great, but...

Working Since...
I’ve been working since 7:30am.  It is now 9:30pm, and I have just decide to turn my computer off.  Not even a few seconds went by, and I immediately picked up my iPad to check my mail. I’m happy I have the drive, and the work ethic to get to me the places I want to go.  However, I’m a little disappointed that I can’t truly turn it off when I want to.  I’d like to...

Coding Land
I’ve been learning various coding languages over the past few months.  I’m not the technical part of my team, consequently I don’t spend long hours every day head down in code. It’s become obvious to me that learning a coding language is exactly the same as learning a second langage in school.  I learned spanish at the University of Virginia.  Class definitely helps, and...

If
IF you can keep your head when all about you  Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream - and...

NYC Tech Blood Drive - Take 2
Dec 10th will be the second NYC Tech Blood Drive.  We’ll be having it at Local Response’s Office on the 5th floor, from 11am - 5pm.  It’ll be an open blood drive, so you can show up anytime you’d like within that time range. All we ask is that you give your email in advance - here, so we can have a good idea of how many people to expect. You shouldn’t need much of a...

Marathon, less than a week
I wanted to sit down this morning and get some thoughts down on paper, err, computer before the end of the week.  This weekend is the NYC Marathon.  If you read anything I write, you’ll know I’m running it. I’ve been training for four months now, and this race is now less than a week away.  At this point in the game I have a weird calm feeling that’s come over me....
